Galveston will be part of a global effort to bring information to the public about the importance of our oceans. This will be the Artists Boat World Oceans Day Festival coming in June.
This year the festival will focus on the theme “The Scourge of Plastic Pollution. Together we can make a difference.” Interactive booths sponsored by local organizations and businesses will help guests explore the connection between human and the oceans.
Some booths at the venue will include Galveston Children’s Museum and Kites Unlimited.
Bird-oriented groups will include the American Bird Conservancy, Houston Audobon Society, the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory. Groups like Galveston Lifeguards, East End Lagoon Nature Preserve, Texas Parks & Wildlife Coastal Fisheries Division, Seastar Base, SSBG Fishing, and Saltwater Soul will also be on hand talking with attendees, supervising the hands-on activities and passing out Business Cards, pamphlets and Flyers with information about their businesses and ocean preservation.
Local vendors will be selling merchandise with a nautical theme, and Ilya Kalozs, Lyda Plummeet, and Jeb Adame will be among the performers.
The Marine Debris Art Contest will display submissions made out of marine debris. These pieces have been designed by artists of all ages. A panel of judges will be choosing its favorite pieces and the festival guests will choose the People’s Choice Award.
The World Oceans Day Festival will be Saturday, June 8 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm at Stewart Beach Park.
