There will no doubt be plenty of poster printing done after the winner of the 2018 Official Poster Contest of Mardi Gras is announced, and the official poster unveiled, in a couple of weeks.
In total, 27 parades are scheduled for the seven-day Galveston Mardi Gras this year. Some of these will feature golf carts, an umbrella brigade, a 5k/10k Jolly Jester Jaunt, and a Mardi Gras King.
Bud Light Main Stage on Strand and 23rd will have Everclear, La Mafia, Kevin Fowler, Jason Cassidy, Made Monster, and DJ Phon. The Electric Stage at Mechanic and 21st Streets will feature 12 musical performances including the pre-party for the Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade.
Children ages 12 and under are invited to enter the Family Gras Coloring Contest for a chance for one of three lucky winners to ride on a parade float. The afternoon parades that will be part of Family Gras will be the Shriners Hospitals for Children & Sunshine Kids Parade starting at noon, followed by the 20th annual Galveston Island Humane Society’s Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Parade and the Mardi Gras Children’s Parade.
The poster unveiling will be 6:00 pm on January 18 at the Beerfoot Brewery, 2816 Avenue R ½, Galveston, and Galveston Mardi Gras 2018 will run February 2 through 13. Family Gras will be February 11. Most Mardi Gras activities will take place in historic Downtown Galveston and along the seawall.
