Two ballrooms here in Galveston will have formal galas in January - one at the beginning of the month and the other towards the end.
The Grand Opera House, 2020 Postoffice Street will celebrate its 125th Anniversary at A Night of Stars on Friday, January 3 starting at 7:00 pm. Guests are invited to dress in “glitzy casual attire” or arrive as one of the characters who performed there over the last 125 years. A list of the shows and performers is on the Grand’s website.
Cocktails will start the evening in Edna’s room. Guests can have commemorative pictures taken in the Orchestra Lobby before 7:30 pm when the theater doors open. There will be food stations, drinks, and the entertainment will include vignettes and the Rob Landes Trio.
Later in the month on January 25, from 6:30 pm until 11:30 pm, Da Krewe du Roux will present its third annual Mardi-Gras Ball - Da Bourbon Ball.
Attire for the evening will be formalwear. The evening will begin with a masquerade cocktail hour, and guests will be required to wear partial masks. Dinner and drinks will be served. Attendees are encouraged to bring decorated umbrellas and take part in the Second Line Procession. If the weather permits, a brass band will lead everyone out of the ballroom and up to The Strand, and continue back around the block.
