Bird lovers flock to FeatherFest

Whether experienced or novice, local birders and photographers will be heading for the 18th annual four-day FeatherFest coming in mid-April.

This will be four days of nature photography and birding field trips and workshops. The festival is always held at this time of year to experience the avian spring migration that has large bird layovers on High Island and Bolivar Flats.

Photographers often take the pictures that they take at events such as this to local Stationery printers to be made into notecards or personalized stationery.

Three Raptors Revealed Raptor shows are scheduled at the Galveston Island Community Center. Live birds of prey such as ravens, a black vulture, rreat horned, and barn owls will be soaring above the crowd, and will be demonstrating their hunting styles. Information will be given on the birds’ abilities, traits, and natural history. On Saturday, there will be Raptors Uncorked Rewired!- a Saturday Evening social.

Kids over five years old can go to FledglingFest on April 18 and 19. Kids and parents can tour Moody Gardens’ Rainforest as biologists guide guests through as they explore tropical birds, their biology and other experiences in the 45-minute interactive program.

Galveston Island State Park will also have a tour for FledglingFest. This will be a two-hour tour of three locations in the park. Kyle O’Haver and his daughter Sigley will guide tourists around the areas.

FeatherFest will be April 16 through 19.
