The segments that are at risk of being removed from the plan are called Segment B and Segment C which serve areas such as Friendswood and extend as far as Brazoria County. TxDOT has not explained its reasoning behind removing Segments B and C from the plan. Segment D has already been constructed.
Banner printing is often used on construction sites to let the public know about the on-going works.
City officials and economic planners for the affected areas are not happy with the move. The president of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, Bob Mitchell, stated that:
“This has caught us by complete surprise. Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation declined to comment about the rationale behind the move, only saying that the public still has the opportunity to comment before an Aug. 29 vote.”
The City Council in League City put forward a resolution which urges TxDOT to follow through on the original plan. Segment A, which serves League City, has not been proposed for removal however that could change because TxDOT mentioned on its website that it does not consider that part of the Grand Parkway to be a ‘viable project’.
