Tea festival heats up Houston area

It may not be a drink associated with the South – at least not in its hot version - but this month, Houston will see a celebration of tea.

The sweet scent of the beverage will soon be wafting throughout the greater Houston metro area, from Sugar Land to Friendswood. The Houston Tea Festival, now in its second incarnation, is not quite an annual event -- promotional products label it as "Randomennial" -- but promises to be a major event.

The Tea Festival aims to be a family-friendly affair, and this rendition features a Harry Potter theme, including events such as a ‘Chai-Wizard tournament’, a Potter trivia contest, and a costume contest. Entertainers such as singers and a comedic juggler will also provide family entertainment.

For the grown-ups, the Festival offers a chance to savor and learn more about their favorite drink. Documentary films and guest speakers will unravel the secrets of the "world's most popular drink", while vendors will offer up everything from Early Grey to Japanese green tea, as well as other products like soap, honey, and custom Drinkware. The festival culminates in a formal, three-course Afternoon Tea.

The festival takes place on January 27 and 28 at the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake, transformed into ‘Mugworts Academy’ for festive purposes. Specialized festivals like this often use local marketing services and printing companies to advertise, so in the weeks to come Houston area residents may see cozy Flyers and Posters promoting the festival.
