Run for veterans in Friendswood

An upcoming run in Friendswood is a fundraiser in support of an organization that in turn supports veterans.

The VCG Freedom 5K/1K is a family-friendly race that raises funds for Veteran College Grants (VCG), a non-profit organization that provides educational scholarships and grants to veterans and their children and spouses. It is also a way for community members to honor those who have served.

The race starts at the gazebo in Stevenson Park, and then the route leads through Old Town Friendswood, a beautiful course. The race is open to runners, families walking together, people with strollers, or pet parents with their dogs. The children’s 1K is a half mile in length, which is one lap around the inside of the park, and everyone is encouraged to cheer for the youngsters. Their race begins at 7.30 am, and the 5K starts as soon as the 1K finishes, about 7.45 am. Events like this are enhanced when organizers use banner printing to create course markers.

Run Houston Timing will professionally chip time the race, and a digital race clock with an inflatable start/finish arch will create a professional atmosphere. There are six awards to be given in total, and everyone will receive a finisher’s medal, a bib, and an event shirt. In addition, there will be coffee stations serving lattes, and everyone will get a slice of pizza.

The race is scheduled for November 7. Participants can check in between 6 am and 7 am at the gazebo on race day.
