What's Happening in Friendswood, TX…

A city bond referendum is planned for Friendswood in November and an advisory committee has put in recommendations for a number of projects it wishes to see funded.

Projects put up for recommendation include upgrades to drainage systems and public safety facilities, and constructing a new activities building that can be used as an emergency shelter and a civic center for community programs.

The total cost for the projects put forth by Friendswood’s Citizens Advisory Team will be $80m. The City Council will review the proposals in August at a meeting where residents will be given the opportunity to share their opinions before the council makes a final decision on them. Upgrades to the drainage systems alone will take up more than half of the $80m bill.

Erecting a new activities building will cost $7.7m. The advisory group believes that a new building is needed because the building currently in use is 49 years old, run-down, and is not designed for multiple uses. Putting up a new building is the best option because renovating the old one will cost as much as constructing a new one.

Renovations for more than 1,700 parks were proposed at the cost of $6.6m. If the proposals go through then residents of Friendswood may expect to see several Banners and Posters from printing services advising them of ongoing works at their favorite parks.

The advisory group would also like to see $7.7m used for street projects.
