Music can be an inspiration for art, and now an event near Friendswood will allow the amazing power of R&B to inspire budding artists.

Soulful Strokes is a special event where Rhythm & Blues meets art. Participants will create a painting of their own, inspired by listening to R&B, a uniquely American musical genre that arose in the 1940s and remains popular today.

The evening is open to people of all levels of expertise, from experienced painters to beginners. An instructor will be on hand to provide support and guidance. The fee for the event is either $30 or $35, which covers a palette with a range of colors, paintbrushes, a canvas, and one alcoholic beverage. The higher price includes the rental of a painter’s apron. Since alcohol is being served, this particular evening is limited to those 21 years of age and older.

For those who are worried about stains, organizers note they are using water-based paints that usually do not stain. However, they also suggest people wear casual clothing, in case of any spills. Aprons can be rented for a small extra charge.

The artists who attend this class will be able to take home their creations. Soulful Strokes is scheduled for January 21 at Charming Obsessions, 100 East Nasa Parkway #STE 309, in Webster, a short distance from Friendswood.
