Youth in the Friendswood area are prepping their bait and tackle for the 2017 Youth Fishing Derby. The event promises outdoor fun and prizes for beginners and experts alike.
The derby was created as way to offer young people in the region their first fishing experience in a community-oriented atmosphere. Over 600lb worth of catfish have been stocked in the Centennial Park Pond, ensuring all participants will have a good chance at catching something.
For the more experienced visitors looking to catch a whopper, prizes and trophies will be given out to the first, second, and third largest fish caught in each age group, along with a prize for most fish caught and smallest fish caught. Door prizes will also be available, including promotional products and gift cards from local businesses.
In addition to the fishing, a free breakfast from Whataburger will also be provided to all participants. Some loaner rods and tackle will be available, but the number is limited, so visitors are encouraged to bring their own gear when possible.
The 2017 Youth Fishing Derby will be held on May 6 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at Centennial Park, located at 2200 S. Friendswood Dr. Participation is free for everyone 16 and under, but registration is required. Anyone looking for more info should visit the event’s website.
