Residents in Friendswood who are either in between jobs or simply angling for a better position are signing up for the remaining workshops in the Job Search Skills Seminars. The two events help seasoned job searchers refine their approach and find truly stellar positions.
Both seminars move past the simple résumé creation and interview prep that normally makes up the content for such courses. Instead, they focus on ways to add a little finesse to both job searches and self-marketing that will make any applicant stand out from the crowd.
The first workshop will focus on job skills. The Flyers claim that though many people have a slew of marketable job skills, they simply lack the ability to communicate those skills in a way that employers will notice. The talk will go over the types of skills wanted based on job ads, the ways in which a skill is best communicated, and then what a company will look for in a résumé to show that skill.
The second workshop covers networking as a job search tool. The claim here is that 80% of all jobs do not get advertised publicly. By using social networking and other connection opportunities, jobseekers can capitalize on an entirely hidden market. The talk will discuss best practices when using these techniques, and making effective phone calls.
The Job Search Skills Seminars will be held today (February 14) and February 28 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Friendswood Public Library, located at 416 S. Friendswood Dr. Admission is free, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Anyone looking for more information should check the flyers.
