Young residents of Friendswood will have an opportunity to participate in a youth fishing derby. Over 600 pounds of catfish will provide the morning fun as young participants throw their fishing lines in the Centennial Park Pond.
A fishing license is not required for this fishing competition. Breakfast is included and is provided by Whataburger. Local Print shops can provide highly visible signage through banner printing for events like this, providing directional information for participants and spectators.
Sponsors include Daryl’s A/C and Heating, Operation Redemption, Home Town Bank, Raymond James, Target and Lutheran South Academy. Sponsor information is available on the event website for interested organizations.
It is recommended by event organizers that derby participants bring their own fishing tackle and supplies. Loaner equipment will be available; however, it is limited. A fishing derby application is available online and must be submitted by an adult on behalf of youth participation.
Awards will be presented at the end of the derby. Award categories include largest fish caught for three age categories: 6 and younger, 7-11, and 12-16. Other awards include smallest fish caught and most fish caught.
The Friendswood Youth Fishing Derby will take place on May 11 from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the Centennial Park Pond located at 2200 S. Friendswood Dr. More information is available online.
