Banners are already being raised in anticipation of the first annual Charity Golf Classic, which is being hosted in Friendswood by the Knights of Columbus council 8494. All proceeds will be used to fund scholarships for local teens and other council charities.
The tournament will feature a barbecue awards dinner with awards such as the longest drive and closest to the pin. There will also be a silent auction and door prizes, as well as the prizes for first, second, and third place teams.
The entry fee is $450 for a team of four, or $125 per person, and includes the green fee, a shared cart, range balls, putting green practice, and a boxed lunch. People looking to sponsor the cause without teeing up can also sponsor the event in amounts between $150 and $1,400. There will be a dress code of full collar shirts and soft spikes for anyone in attendance.
The Knights of Columbus was first founded in 1882. Though this is the first golf tournament the group has sponsored in the Friendswood area, is has been involved in scholarships and charitable work in the area for a number of years, no doubt supported by local Print companies.
