The Friendswood Senior Citizen Program is finishing its preparations for the Fifth Annual BBQ Fundraiser. The lunchtime event promises a nice spread of Friendswood’s best barbecue in hopes of
raising some much needed funds.
Attendees will have their choice of barbecued pork, chicken or sausage with a side of sauce, baked beans, potato salad, and a dessert. The meal is being catered by Joe’s Barbecue, which means that seconds and thirds will be available for visitors with larger appetites. The Senior Citizen Program is also taking pre-orders for those who would like their barbecue packed up to go.
The food is entirely being donated by Alan Rasmussen and Hometown Bank of Friendswood, meaning that all money raised from the lunch will go directly towards supporting the Friendswood Senior Citizen Program. The city-run program provides a full calendar year of activities such as Tai Chi and ballroom dancing alongside a lunch program and ride service for the seniors of Friendswood. The yearly barbecue is one of their main sources of income aside from advertising revenue generated from their newsletter printing.
The Fifth Annual BBQ Fundraiser will take place on June 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Friendswood Activity Building, located at 416 Morningside Drive. Cost for the meal will be $10 for adults and $8 for seniors. Anyone interested in more info should check the newsletter or contact the FSCP directly.
