Friendswood ready for clean-up

Disposing of unwanted items can be difficult, but Friendswood officials have a solution for their residents.

The city is holding Spring Sparkle 2022, a chance for people to dispose of a variety of items quickly and conveniently, and without charge. The event is limited to Friendswood residents, who must present a valid ID, and will be held at Centennial Park on South Friendswood Drive. Organizers of events like this can use flyer printing to create informative handouts for participants.

Acceptable items include wood, tree limbs, plastic, old furniture and appliances, and metal. Hazardous waste, bricks, or cement will not be accepted.

Shredding is available for up to 200 pounds per vehicle, from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm, or until there is no room left in the truck. Commercial shredding will not be accepted, nor will videotapes, newspapers, microfiche, hanging file folders, floppy disks, cardboard, or three-ring binders.

The event also allows people to dispose of electronic equipment including USB drives, TVs (less than 36-inch only), telephones, switches, servers, ink and toner cartridges, hubs, fax machines, computers, cell phones, and cables.

Residents will be able to drop off items for a garage sale to be held benefiting the beautification of city facilities and parks. Acceptable items include bikes, household items, furniture, and similar products in good condition, but clothing cannot be taken.

The Spring Sparkle is set for April 9.
