Friendswood prepares park for Santa

As the season gets into full swing, some residents in Friendswood are taking a break from writing Holiday Cards to check out the Ninth Annual Santa in the Park. The event combines food, festival fun, and even snow as guests greet Kris Kringle.

Saint Nick will be available all afternoon to hear children’s Christmas wishes and pose for photo ops. In the evening, he will join in a parade that will wrap through the center of town before coming back around to the park for an old-fashioned tree lighting, which will be followed up by a firework display.

In addition to the activities with Santa, visitors can play on a snow hill that includes 40,000lb of snow. The park will also be filled with a holiday market featuring local vendors and crafters, so attendees can shop for presents while they eat and drink from the various food and beverage vendors. Amusement park rides will also be set up in the park.

Santa in the Park will take place on December 8 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Stevenson Park, located at 1100 S. Friendswood Dr. Admission is free, though wristbands for the rides cost $10. Anyone who donates a new, unwrapped toy can get the wristband for $5. Those looking for more information should check the Flyers or contact the city directly.
