What's Happening in Friendswood, TX…

An upcoming event will give Friendswood residents a chance to help keep their city clean.

The Spring Sparkle event has nothing to do with glitter and everything to do with helping residents recycle, which can often be inconvenient. The City of Friendswood is attempting to make the process easy.

A shredding truck will be available to dispose of paper items, and a truck from Compucycle will handle electronics. Both trucks will be available from 8.00 am until 12.00 pm, or until they are full. In addition, gently used items will be accepted to be offered later at a garage sale.

Paper shredding is limited to 200 pounds of material per vehicle. Items that are not acceptable for shredding include videotapes, newspaper, microfiche, hanging file folders, floppy disks, cardboard, and three-ring binders.

Compucycle will accept a wide range of electronics including USB drives, cell phones, laptops, keyboards, monitors, routers, and many more. They will not accept televisions larger than 36 inches.

Many other items will be accepted, but the city will not take hazardous waste. Anyone interested should check with Friendswood to determine what they can recycle. Proceeds from the garage sale will go to support Friendswood Beautification programs.

The date of Spring Sparkle is April 13, beginning at 8.00 am, at Centennial Park. The recycling event is only for Friendswood residents, who must present a local ID before they can participate. Organizers of outdoor events often work with banner printing to create directional signage for attendees to find the location.
