Friendswood goes green with free trees

This January, Friendswood is getting a big boost to its local greenery with the Keep Friendswood Beautiful Tree Giveaway.

The trees will serve as both a promotional product for the local initiative ‘Keep Friendswood Beautiful’, while also bringing a little more shade to the town.

The program will give out well-developed trees in 15 gallon drums. The trees being given away include Nuttall Oaks, Redbuds, Eagleston Hollies, Magnolias, and Cherry Laurels.

Only one tree will be given out per family, and only to residents, so bringing a water bill or a driver’s license is required. The supply is limited to just over 100, so trees will be doled out on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. No delivery is available, so a vehicle capable of hauling trees of that size is also needed.

The Keep Friendswood Beautiful program is run in conjunction with the Friendswood Parks and Recreation Department. Its goal is to increase the aesthetic beauty in Friendswood and provide programs and educational opportunities for the community. They also work to make suggestions to the city for conserving and protecting the natural resources of the area.

The Beautiful Tree Giveaway will be held at the Friendswood City Hall located at 9105 Friendswood Dr. on January 16 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. No trees will be left after the event, so visitors are encouraged not to be late. Anyone interested should check the website for more information.
