Friendswood gets lesson in conflict resolution

Couples in the Friendswood area are setting aside a little time to attend the Friendswood Library’s latest workshop: Improving Relationships Through Conflict Resolution.

The evening event aims to help develop strategies of ironing out sticking points in any relationship.

The program teaches that, though they are often viewed negatively, conflicts can actually be healthy for any relationships by highlighting areas that can be improved and aspects that might need special attention. This is not a common outcome, however, simply because many people do not have a strategy to resolve the conflicts that crop up as part of any long-term human interaction.

This workshop identifies major ways to handle conflict in a constructive way, namely by actively listening while avoiding negative and hurtful Forms of criticism. Finally, the seminar discusses ways to come up with a resolution nondefensively.

The talk is led by April Reynolds, who has over 30 years’ experience mentoring teens, families, and adults in various life and relationship strategies. She brings with her a degree in Youth Leadership, with additional studies in applied sociology.

Improving Relationships Through Conflict Resolution will be held on April 6, beginning at 7:00 pm at the Friendswood Public Library, located at 416 S. Friendswood Dr. Admission to the event is free to the public. For more information, check the Calendars or call the library directly.
