Friendswood is welcoming warmer weather by holding a cleanup.

Keep Friendswood Beautiful hosts community-wide cleanup events twice a year, and the Spring Sparkle is now on the calendar. Centennial Park is the location for the event, which is open only to residents of Friendswood, who must present their ID when entering the park. When officials organize events like this, they may opt to use banner printing to create signage indicating specific recycling stations.

The city is accepting a wide range of items that residents would otherwise have to dispose of themselves. There are several categories of items including electronic waste, clean-up items, and items for a garage sale. Shredding services will also be available. The city is not accepting hazardous waste, or any wildlife items such as shallow bowls or cat carriers.

Electronic waste will be collected by Compucycle, who will accept goods including cell phones, laptops, routers, USB drives, servers, printers, monitors, keyboards, computers, and cables.

There is a maximum of 200lb per vehicle for shedding. Most paper will be accepted except for video tapes, newspaper, microfiche, hanging file folders, floppy disks, cardboard, and three-ring binders.

There are numerous items suitable for collection, so anyone interested should check with the city before the event. The Spring Sparkle is Saturday, April 12, from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm, and the shredding truck will be available from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm, or until it gets full. The park is at 2200 South Friendswood Drive.
