Friendswood class teaches about plants

An upcoming class in Friendswood will teach people about plants suitable for Texas.

The Heritage Gardeners Garden Club is the host for the upcoming class “Texas Superstars: Strong and Stunning Plants for Texans.” The plants that will be discussed have been tested for their reliability and quality, in addition to how well they perform in the often-harsh climate of Texas. They are also featured because they are readily available to gardeners, and are frequently recommended by horticulture experts working in Texas.

At Texas Superstars, tests are performed in various locations that represent the many different ecoregions found in Texas, which vary by amounts of rainfall, summer heat, and cold in winter. Experts in plants from the Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas Tech University, Texas A&M Agrilife, horticulturists from the county Agrilife Extension, and the Texas Nursey and Landscape Association, along with their plant-producing members, all work together to evaluate these plants and their potential to survive in the state.

Briana Etie, Galveston County Master Gardner, will lead the discussion. The Texas Superstar Plants class is scheduled for February 1, at the Garden Club’s clubhouse at 112 West Spreading Oaks, behind the Friendswood Library. Experts who organize events like this will often use flyer printing to create informative handouts for people attending the program.

A Meet and Greet is set for 9.30am, with the program starting at 10.00am. The program is entirely free to attend.
