Friendswood celebrates Apollo 11

The city of Friendswood is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing next month.

The celebrations will last almost the whole month, and will start off with several panel discussions at the Friendswood Public Library. Also at the library, there will also be an Ask an Astronaut event where guests can speak to Jerry Ross and have him sign Copies of his book, a screening of a documentary about Apollo 11, and a virtual reality session.

There will be a splashdown party at Brasserie 1895 on the day commemorating Apollo 11’s return.

The main celebration will be a festival at Stevenson Park on July 27. There will be a rocket building workshop for children hosted by Mad Science Org. Fees are $10. There will be plenty of children's games, picture opportunities with flat astronauts, and a concert by the Fab5. In addition, a classic car show will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, open to cars from 1969 and earlier. The entry fee is $20 per car, and People's Choice awards will be given to the top three vehicles.
