Project Hope, Operation Redemption, and Lutheran South Academy are teaming up with the Friendswood Parks and Recreation Department to put together the 2016 Youth Fishing Derby. The event is aimed at introducing youths and children to the joy of fishing.
Over 600lb of adult catfish has been stocked in the pond. On the day of the event, participants will be able to fish as much as they can from the water. Some rods will be available for attendees to borrow on the day of the event, but they are limited so visitors are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear if possible.
Prizes and trophies will be handed out for the top three longest fish caught for each age division, as well as prizes for the smallest fish and the most catches. Additionally, door prizes will be given out to participants. As an extra treat, Whataburger is helping to sponsor the event and, by way of promotional products, they will be providing a free hamburger breakfast to everyone in attendance.
The 2016 Youth Fishing Derby will take place this Saturday, May 7 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Centennial Park in Friendswood. The event is free for everyone 16 and under, and no preregistration is required. Anyone interested in participating should visit the website to find more info.
