Fishing fun comes to Friendswood

Once again, it is time for youngsters to enjoy fishing in Friendswood.

The City of Friendswood Parks & Recreation Department is bringing back the popular Youth Fishing Derby for 2023. The event takes place at Centennial Park, where the Centennial Park Pond will be stocked with more than 600lb of catfish so that the young anglers will have something to catch.

There is only a limited amount of equipment on hand that can be loaned out to event participants, so everyone should try to bring fishing equipment from home if they can. They will not be required to have a fishing license for the morning.

There are three categories of participants, separated by age: children 6 and under, children 7 to 11, and youngsters 12 to 16. Prizes will be awarded in each age category for the largest fish caught, the smallest fish caught, and the most fish caught. There is still time for interested businesses or individuals to join in and help to sponsor the event.

The Youth Fishing Derby this year is Saturday, May 6, from 8:00 am until 10:00 am. It is not necessary for young fishermen and fisherwomen to pre-register in order to take part. When events are scheduled to take part outdoors, as this is, organizers have the opportunity to use banner printing to create Signs with any rules they want to explain, since Banners are sturdy and weather resistant.
