Michelin Restaurant Guide expands into Lone Star State

Texas chefs will finally get the attention they deserve with the arrival of anonymous inspectors for the Michelin Guides in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio.

Viewed as the authority on fine dining, the Michelin Guides inspectors rate restaurants by awarding them between one and three stars. The Guide was started in France by the Michelin tire manufacturer in that country in 1900. Guides were added to other countries in subsequent years with Michelin first publishing its Guide in the U.S. in 2005. The first American Guide was for restaurants across New York City’s five boroughs and evaluated 500 restaurants.

Businesses, including restaurants in the Stemmons Corridor and other diner-heavy parts of Dallas, are sure to mention any awards they receive or affiliations they have in all materials they order from their Stationery printers.

The Lone Star State will be North America’s 11th Michelin Guide area; other recently added locations include Colorado and Florida. The Michelin Guides international director Gwendal Poullennec said in a statement:

“The Texas culinary scene has proven to be an exhilarating one, with multicultural influences, homegrown ingredients and talent that is rich in ambition.”

In addition to its star ratings, Texas restaurants will be eligible for Bib Gourmand and Green Star ratings. Bib Gourmand is a recognition of those establishments that provide great-quality foods at reasonable prices for the area, while Michelin Green Stars designate restaurants viewed as sustainable.
