Solar non-profit enlists city to grow solar accessibility

The non-profit Solar United Neighbors is partnering with the city of Dallas to advance the use of solar energy through the city’s recently founded program Solar Switch Dallas.

Solar United Neighbors’ mission is to advocate for and promote solar energy use while offering consumer protection in the form of facilitating “co-ops” that enable homeowners to purchase at a “group rate” rooftop solar panels. The city’s Solar Switch program collaborates with local governments and non-profits to assists with group buying programs and help steer homeowners and small businesses through the rooftop solar installation process.

Government programs, whether they be at the local, state, or federal level, use a variety of methods to inform the public of what they offer, including some provided by poster and flyer printing services.

America Garcia, Solar United’s Texas Program Director, elaborated:

"…by going solar with a group, participants feel confident in their decision and save money through the power of group buying.”

Recently added federal clean energy incentives, as well as the dropping of solar panel prices, have made accessing solar power easier. In addition, the Inflation Reduction Act provides solar tax credit for homeowners that can save almost a third of the total system cost. For small businesses, a similar tax credit is available.

According to Zillow, adding a solar system may increase a home's value by over 4%.
