Bike-friendly efforts in Dallas earns city award
The League of American Bicyclists recently acknowledged the city of Dallas’s efforts to become a more bicycle friendly community by designating it a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community.
The organization has five award levels, of which bronze is the lowest, in addition to an honorable mention category; the remaining four are diamond, platinum, gold, and silver. Factors taken into consideration for the granting of the awards include adult and youth bicycle education, pro-bicycling policies, events like ‘Bike to Work Day,’ and bicycle infrastructure.
Ghassan Khankarli, the director of the Dallas Department of Transportation and Public Works, said the city has more work planned for increasing its bicycle friendliness. He commented:
Brochure printing services help cities convey important information on available recreational opportunities as well as those in the planning stage.
According to Rebekah Kornblum, the Dallas Bicycle Coalition (DBC) president, a number of programs contributed to the city receiving the award. Among these groups or programs were the Earn-A-Bike program of Bike Friendly South Dallas; the DBC’S bike valet service; Bike to School Week, hosted by iBike Rosemont; and the children’s bike giveaways by ‘Happy Riders’.
