Among the Dallas Greening Initiative’s plans is the recently announced new greenspace at the northeast corner of Frankford Road and Dallas North Tollway on an empty lot adjacent to the 18201 Gibbons Drive Dallas Fire Station 10.
The Dallas Greening Initiative (DGI) has a goal of creating 15 new parks over the next five years throughout Dallas. This particular project will be a partnership between the city, Trust for Public Land and Dallas Fire-Rescue. A national nonprofit, Trust for Public Land promotes the benefits provide by the outdoors.
Brochure printing services help raise awareness of projects supported by local government – private partnerships.
To ensure the reclaimed greenspaces are the best fit for a neighborhood, design options will be presented to and feedback gathered at community meetings as well as a Better Block pop-up park activation. A nonprofit, Better Block has as its mission empowering communities through reactivating neighborhood environments. Among the options to consider will be whether the area will be used for passive or active recreation. Examples of passive recreation areas would include a trail and gathering spaces, while active recreation areas might have a flex lawn and playground.
The DGI limits the budget for each greenspace it creates at $750,000 with 10 percent of the budget at each site being reserved for ongoing maintenance to be provided by Dallas Park & Recreation with the help of local volunteers.
The north Dallas greenspace project has a target completion date in 2027.
