Dallas tops list of U.S. cities in corporate HQ relocations

According to CBRE, a commercial real estate services enterprise, companies relocating their headquarters have chosen Dallas-Fort Worth area as their most popular choice.

A recent analysis conducted by CBRE shows that among U.S. cities DFW has been the No. 1 metro choice for headquarter relocation among corporations from 2018 to 2024. During that six-year period, 100 new corporate headquarters have relocated here.

CBRE’s utilized public announcements issued by companies of various sizes, and across an assortment of industries, to compile this list. Compared to the 100 headquarters that relocated to DFW during those six years, there were 81 that relocated to Austin, 35 to Nashville, 31 each to Houston and Phoenix, and 23 to Denver.

Many factors go into a successful corporate relocation, including new Letterheads and Business Cards.

The study cites the reasons that guide companies’ choices on where to move, among which were the availability of tax incentives, access to lower taxes, key market proximity, and the ability for hybrid work support.

High-profile companies that chose to relocate their headquarters to the DFW area during the period of 2018 to 2024 included AECOM construction firm, Charles Schwab financial services company, and the McKesson healthcare company. Indeed, in 2020 the global HQ of CBRE itself was moved from San Francisco to Dallas as well.
