An amendment to the city code that would expand policies for mobile food vendors is being considered by Cedar Park City Council.
Currently, the code only includes two types of vendor applications: one that allows seasonal vendors in business areas (such as snow cone stands) and another that permits stands along the city’s roadways.
At a July 10 meeting, the council discussed a proposal by Levi Lamberts, a Cedar Park resident, for a new mobile food vendor park. Called Foodapalooza, the park would be located southeast of Parmer Lane and Whitestone Boulevard. Additionally, Rick Redmond was before council to enquire about the possibility of adding vendors and creating an outdoor food court at his restaurant, Lone Star Grille & Bubba’s Backyard.
Redmond had purchased a food trailer, only to find out that on commercial-zoned properties, mobile vendors were not allowed. He had hoped to duplicate a venue called Truck Yard in Dallas, which combines a restaurant with an outdoor food court. The Truck Yards provides a shaded outdoor area at which vendors provide a variety of dinner items, drinks, and desserts.
If Cedar Park City Council decides to ease the restrictions on mobile food vendors, those vendors will be no doubt be needing flyer printing services, and the city may well ask brochure printers to add information regarding the food trucks to Cedar Park literature.
