Every other year, the Texas Cultural Trust rewards the hard work and dedication of artists working within the state, and the Trust recently announced the first batch of winners of the 2019 Texas Medal of Arts.
Among the recipients are an Austin-based writer, two architects, a fashion designer, and an arts high school. The trust will continue to name the 2019 honorees in batches, leading up to the awards ceremonies on February 26 and 27, 2019.
Organizations that give out awards to artists can use Stationery printers to announce the recipients and to create certificates for the winners.
Among the recently announced Texas Medal of Arts winners is Stephen Harrigan, from Austin. Harrigan is a screenwriter, author and journalist. He has been working on a history of Texas, which has an expected publication date sometime in the next few months. Among his best-known works is ‘The Gates of Alamo’.
Brandon Maxwell has been named the design category honoree. Maxwell is a stylist, photographer and fashion designer who produces high-end clothing for women. Although he currently lives in New York, he grew up in East Texas.
A pair of architects working on redesigning the outdoor spaces of the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin were named the winners of the architecture category. Elaine Molinar and Craig Dykers are prinicipals at Snøhetta, which has offices in New York and Oslo, Norway.
The final honoree is the Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts in Laredo, Texas, which was chosen for the arts education category.
