Often dubbed the “punk poet laureate,” Patti Smith will be visiting Austin in May. This performance will take place at the renowned venue Austin City Limits Live.
After a few years of various efforts in art, including painting, writing, and performing, Smith started performing rock music in 1974. She first teamed up with guitarist Lenny Kaye until forming a full band with Ivan Kral, Jay Dee Daughtry, and Richard Sohl. That year, the group recorded their first single.
The next year, the album “Horses” was released under Artista Records. This recording is Patti Smith’s most well-known album and has the distinction of being inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress.
In addition, Smith has received many other awards and nominations, including four Grammy nominations and one for the Golden Globe. She has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and has received the Founders Award in 2010 and Sweden’s 2011 Polar Award. Outside of music, she has also received the 2010 National Book Award for her memoir, ‘Just Kids’.
The concert will take place on Saturday, May 7 at 310 Willie Nelson Blvd. The doors will open at 6:30 pm and the show will start at 8:00 pm. Venues such as ACL Live may be interested in printing services to help their promotional efforts.
