This April, multiple performances of the musical The Lion King will be shown in Austin. The location of these will be the Bass Concert Hall in the University of Texas at Austin.
The musical is based on the 1994 Disney animated film of the same name, which tells the story of the power struggle between the King of Pride Rock, Mufasa, his brother Scar and his son Simba. Most of the story centers on Simba as he grows up and works to get through his past traumas to claim the Pride Rock throne. Helping him along the way are the lioness Nala, the warthog Pumba, the meerkat Timon, and a variety of other colorful characters.
The musical originally opened in Minneapolis, Minnesota before its Broadway premiere on November 13, 1997. To date, it is Broadway's third-longest running show and its top grossing. It won six Tony Awards, including those for Best Musical and Best Direction. In addition, approximately 100 million people worldwide have seen it.
The shows will take place at various times and dates from April 6 to 24. The Bass Concert Hall is located at 2350 Robert Dedman Dr. Tickets will be $35. More information is available on the university site.
