Film and television premieres at Austin festival

There is a blockbuster line up of shows planned for the 2025 SXSW Film and TV Festival in Austin.

South by Southwest (SXSW) started in 1987 when 150 people registered to attend the inaugural conference and festival, but 700 turned out on the opening day. Today the event is known around the world as a premiere interactive festival, which attracts as many as 300,000 attendees.

This year, there is a much anticipated opening night television presentation of The Studio, starring Seth Rogan, who also writes and produces the show.

Over the following week, the festival will present more than 200 film, television and extended reality (XR) features in a wide range of genres. XR is a term for a production in which filmmakers use new technology to make viewers feel like they are part of a movie and may include the addition of digital interactive characters to real video. More than 50 short films and 18 music videos will also be included this year.

Many of the feature films and television programs showcased at the festival will be world premieres from established studios as well as innovative independent filmmakers.

Educational sessions and workshops with creative industry mentors are offered throughout the week and are included in premium ticket packages such as the all-access platinum badge. A range of other ticket options are available. Conference organizers often look to local Print shops for printing services such as badges and other promotional materials.

The 2025 SXSW Film and TV Festival will take place March 7-14, 2025 at the Austin Convention Center.
