Blue-domed recycling comes to downtown Austin

Austin Resource Recovery, has expanded the city’s recycling efforts to include blue-domed recycling containers downtown as part of Austin’s Recycle on the Go initiative.

The new blue recycling cans were unveiled by the city on August 5. According to Mayor Steve Adler, Recycle on the Go is the latest step toward Austin achieving its objective of ‘Zero Waste by 2040’. The Mayor was accompanied at the announcement by representatives of downtown businesses, other city officials, and members of the Downtown Austin Alliance.

Starting with the downtown area between Congress Avenue and San Antonio Street, the addition of blue cans expanded the following week from Congress to Sixth Street. More cans will be added periodically over the next three years. In first two weeks, 50 blue recycling container will find homes downtown.

Local businesses and city officials are partnering to inform downtown workers, residents, and visitors of the city’s latest recycling options. Posters printing services may be employed to remind Austinites to be on the lookout for the blue domes and encouraging them recycle their cans and bottles. Using a banner printing service in downtown areas where the new containers are placed may create a healthy buzz.

Recycling on the Go is just one part of Austin’s plan to recycle 90% of the city’s waste and prevent it from going into landfills, according to Austin Resource Recovery.
