From political historians to sci-fi writers, nearly 300 authors are set to appear in Austin near the end of October.
The lineup for the 23rd Texas Book Festival was announced at the end of August. Among the writers scheduled to appear are Celeste Ng, a novelist who wrote the bestselling ‘Little Fires Everywhere’ and ‘Everything I Never Told You’; Jacqueline Woodson, a young adult and children's novelist and the 2018-2019 National Ambassador for Young People's Literature; and Luis Alberto Urrea, a poet and essayist.
Ng, Woodson, Urrea and Michael Beschloss, a historian, will be participating in the First Edition Literary Gala on October 26. Funds raised during the gala support the book festival, as well as public library grants, the Reading Rock Stars Literacy program, and other programs throughout the year. The gala in 2017 raised over $630,000.
Organizations that put together literary events and literacy programs can use Print shops to get the word out about their programming.
The Texas Book Festival is set to begin the day after the gala, on October 27 and will continue the next day. The festival is free and open to all.
In addition to the four writers mentioned above, other authors scheduled to appear at the event include Ben Fountain, author of ‘Beautiful Country Burn Again’, a work of nonfiction set against the political backdrop of 2016; and Phoebe Robinson, the host of the ‘2 Dope Queens’ podcast and the author of ‘Everything's Trash, But It's Okay’.
