Austin to start year with free concerts

Over 300 artists and musicians will offer up their talents at no cost during Free Week in Austin.

Presented by the Red River Cultural District (RRCD) , Free Week is an annual event that began in 2003 by a single local club with the intent of bolstering business during the typically slow winter season. It has evolved into a multi-venue event which attracts thousands of live-music fans. More than a dozen clubs and other event locations will present a range of performances by local and area musicians.

The cultural district has become a popular destination for concerts, food and drink in downtown Austin. The RRCD is a non-profit collective of more than 40 small businesses, organizations and societies that works to promote live music and the associated venues as well as area restaurants and accommodations.

In addition to Free Week, the RRCD hosts dozens of annual events and festivals, including Hot Summer Nights, another multi-genre music event. It has also supported the community in others ways, including providing $200,000 in emergency payments to businesses during the pandemic and working with other stakeholders to fund downtown improvements. Organizations such as this often use professional Print shops to create advertising materials for their events.

Free Week 2025 will be held January 3 and 4, 2025. Further details and a line-up of artists and venues is available on the RRCD website.
