Gonzalez was traveling by motorcycle from Austin to Maine and back again with his Doberman Pinscher, a six-year-old name Skyy. During that trip, he came up with the idea of paddle boarding along the coastline, from Port Isabel to Port Arthur, to raise money for a local nonprofit.
He hopes to raise money to support Patriot PAWS, which provides veterans with service dogs. Gonzalez credits his pup with giving him the inspiration for the trip, saying:
"The best times I have of all are when I go with Skyy," he to WFAA, "There's a kind of love that only real dog owners know. They'll love you and always be there for you no matter what and that's why I've decided to take off on my next adventure."
People who are planning on participating in challenges to raise money for charity can use Flyers to get the word out about their projects and to help raise funds. Gonzalez's goal is to reach a $15,000 target for Patriot Paws. He will travel by board for 30 miles each day, then head to the beach to sleep.
