Austin locals sign up early for new electric cars

Automotive company Tesla debuted its new Model 3 on the West Coast recently and, as a result, consumers around the U.S., including Austin, are lining up for their chance to purchase the car.

A few hundred folks lined up outside Tesla in downtown Austin to put their names on the list for this vehicle, which is set to begin production in 2017 with delivery scheduled for early 2018.

It is likely the marketing services that Tesla has used along with Promotional Products have captured the attention of all those interested nationwide.

The vehicles are expected to sell in the $30-$35K price range. This is much lower than previous vehicles the company has made, which sold for about $80,000. It is likely the lower price will bring this car to the attention of many who previously were unaware of its existence due to the high price tag.

The vehicles will run for about 215 miles on each charge and will have high-performance qualities. However, many residents were interested in the vehicles not for their high performance, but for the environmental contributions these cars make.

The government is also offering incentives for the first 200,000 vehicles sold and, although these incentives vary by state, consumers could receive from $7,500 to $13,000. Once the 200,000 threshold is reached, the incentives go away, which makes it even more important to reserve the vehicles as soon as possible.
