The 18th annual Austin bat fest will celebrate the traditional nightly flight of as many as 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats.
Each spring and summer evening, the bats emerge from their roosts under the Congress Avenue Bridge to feed on insects in the hour proceeding dusk. The bats migrate from Mexico each spring to live in the urban bat colony, where they raise their pups in the warm cement crevices of the bridge, before flying south in early fall.
Every evening, hundreds of people visit the site to watch the bats and, on one night, the city turns the wildlife event into a festival of live music, food and family activities, including a bat costume competition.
Food and beverage vendors, as well as booths with other merchandise, such as arts, crafts and bat-themed items, are set up to provide the best view of the bats. Visitors can also enjoy the spectacle from boats in the water and on observation decks below the bridge.
Tickets to the festival on the bridge are $30 each, while children 10 and under enter free. There's also the opportunity to purchase a VIP ticket to a reserved area that provides front row standing at the stage, parking, food and beverage vouchers and a festival T-shirt.
Product vendors and event organizers often use local printers to provide Logo Design for their merchandise at festivals such as this.
