After 10 years of providing Austinites with locally grown and produced goods, the owners of Springdale Farm recently announced that this year will be its last.
The owners, Glenn and Paula Foore, made the announcement in their newsletter, letting customers know that they planned on retiring and moving on, putting a focus on their family and their own health.
Since the opening of Springdale Farm 10 years ago, the couple have been selling the crops they grew for a sale during a farmstand, held twice a week. The Foores also welcomed Sonya Cote, a chef, about six years ago. Cote has run Eden East, an outdoor restaurant, on part of the farm's property.
Businesses that are changing direction or closing their doors for good can use flyer printing and newsletters, as the Foores did, to let people know of the change.
While the farm is scheduled to close at the end of the summer, some things will remain the same. For example, the East Austin Urban Farm Tour, a yearly fundraiser, will continue. The farm tour includes stops at Springdale Farm, Boggy Creek, HausBar, and Rain Lily.
Additionally, Springdale Handmade, a skincare and soap company started by Carla Crownover and sold at the farmstand, will continue on. The soaps will now be sold online and at local retailers.
