A show that celebrates the classic hits of the 1950s and 1960s is coming to Franklin.
A hit when it played off-Broadway, “The Marvelous Wonderettes” is set in 1958, at the Springfield High School prom, where Suzy, Missy, Cindy Lou, and Betty Jean reveal their dreams for the future, and explore their current lives.
The girls get back together at their tenth reunion, and they (and the audience) learn what has happened to them during the preceding decade. As they reminisce about the last ten years, they discover they are strong, and their bond is as solid as ever.
The show is a “jukebox” musical, which is defined as a musical film or play in which most songs are not originally written for the show but are pop music tunes that everyone knows. “Jersey Boys,” based on the career of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, is a hit jukebox musical. The songs used in “The Marvelous Wonderettes” include “It’s My Party” by Lesley Gore; “Respect,” a huge hit for Aretha Franklin; “Lollipop,” performed by The Chordettes, and more. When events like these are on the schedule, organizers can bring audiences in by using poster printing to create colorful advertising.
“The Marvelous Wonderettes” will be performed at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center November 4 at 2.00 pm and 7.00 pm; November 5 at 2.00 pm and 7.00 pm, and November 6 at 2.00 pm. A pre-show lunch is planned before the matinee on November 4.
