Classic rock bands plan show at Franklin amphitheater

An iconic folk-rock band is on the way to Franklin, bringing friends with them.

The Doobie Brothers, along with The Coral Reefer Band, will be at the FirstBank Amphitheater in Franklin, and are sure to rock the house.

Started in 1970 in San Jose, the Doobie Brothers original members were Dave Shogren, Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, and John Hartman. The group on tour now comprises Johnston and Simmons, along with John McFee and Michael MacDonald. Other musicians join occasionally.

The band’s first album “The Doobie Brothers” dropped in1971, but their breakthrough came the next year, with “Toulouse Street.” The hits “Jesus Is Just Alright” and “Listen to the Music” are both from this album. Other hits include “China Grove,” “Rockin’ Down the Highway,” “Long Training Runnin’,” and “Black Water.” They have released 19 studio albums, dropping the newest, “Walk This Road,” in 2025. A concert review says:

“it was exactly what I thought it would be.. great musicians great interaction with the crowd......loved it!”

The Coral Reefer Band is Jimmy Buffett’s recording and touring band. He created the band in 1974 and remained with the group until his death in 2023. The name of the band alludes in part to coral reefs, which reflect the tropical themes in Buffet’s music.

The two classic bands will appear September 15, and the amphitheater is located at 4525 Graystone Quarry Lane. When events like this are planned, organizers can turn to poster printing to create advertising for them.
