Jazz coming to Franklin

Influential jazz pianist Dave Brubeck would have been 100 years old in 2020. Although he is gone, his legacy survives, thanks to the Brubeck Brothers Quartet, who will be appearing in Franklin in the new year.

The quartet includes Dan and Chris Brubeck, Dave's sons, who recorded and performed with their father beginning in the 1970s. They have developed a multimedia show that explores Dave Brubeck's life and career. Chris and Dan provide the foundation of the group, with Chuck Lamb on piano, and Mike DeMicco on guitar.

The brothers have been playing together almost their entire lives. Chris is a composer, while Dan plays trombone, bass, and drums. They made their first record in 1966, and have played in colleges, concert series, and jazz festivals across Europe and North America, including the Monterey Jazz Festival.

They have also played with numerous orchestras including the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, the Russian National Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Although the quartet usually plays traditional jazz, their concert performances have revealed that they have an ability to play in other styles while integrating world music, blues, and funk influences at the same time. Their improvisation is in keeping with the spontaneous nature of jazz.

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet will be at the Franklin Theatre on January 24, at 8:00 pm. Brochure printing can be used to create programs for events like this, with room for a short biography.
