Franklin Theatre has new interim executive director

The Heritage Foundation of Williamson County recently announced it has appointed an interim executive director for the Franklin Theatre.

Paul T. Couch has been named to the post, bringing extensive venue management experience with him. He was once general manager of Ryman Auditorium, the historic theater in Nashville that was home to the Grand Ole' Opry from 1943 to 1974. While he was there, he booked and promoted many different shows, including bluegrass, rock, pop, country, and classical music.

From there, he went to the Lucas Theatre in Savannah, and then was hired by the Dollywood theme park, where he worked from 2003 until 2014. While there, he began working with Dolly Parton, and together they created several productions, as well as a television special for the Hallmark Channel.

Couch has been living in Franklin for the last five years, creating and producing musicals. His most ambitious project may be his current collaboration with Parton. The two are working on a new version of Charles Dickens's beloved story A Christmas Carol, called Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol. New Business Cards are often created for situations like this.

The Franklin Theatre opened in 1937 as a cinema, but closed in 2007 as the trend grew toward cineplexes. However, the Heritage Foundation refused to let the landmark die, bought and renovated the venue, and it is now open again for events of all kinds.
