Franklin school district will feed kids for free

For the ninth year in a row, the Franklin Special School District (FSSD) is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide free meals to children during the summer months.

The program, called the ‘Seamless Summer Food Service Program’ provides free breakfasts and/or lunches to children under the age of 18. It is designed to provide food to children whose most nutritious meals are those they receive at school. During the summer, that food source is unavailable.

The meals are served at a main dining site, and a number of additional sites during the months of June and July, and are available to children on a simple walk-in basis. There are no qualifications that must be met, and there are no Forms required. Adults who want to buy a meal pay a very nominal price: breakfast is $2.25 and lunch costs $3.50.

The FSSD Summer Dining Site is at Johnson Elementary School on Glass Lane in Franklin. It recently began operations, and will be open through July 27, except for July 2 through 6. Breakfast is served from 8:00 am until 8:30 am, and lunch hours are 12:15 pm until 12:45 pm. For further information about the program, and where to find additional sites, interested parties should contact the FSSD's Robbin Cross at 615-794-6624 or crossrob@fssd.org.

Vital information like this needs to be disseminated, so officials might work with a flyer printing company to create a mailer for residents.
