Warm weather made a recent Sunday evening perfect for Franklin's Christmas tree lighting, and thousands turned out to enjoy the fun.
The comfortable temperatures were not the only things warming the crowd, many of whom sipped on hot chocolate or warm cider as they spent their evening in Franklin's downtown, taking part in the Franklin Christmas Tree Lighting on the Square.
Those who came to take part in the annual celebration also enjoyed the opportunity to sing their favorite Christmas songs, take a photo of the gorgeously-lit tree, or grab a picture with the Jolly Old Elf himself, Santa Claus. Participants at events like this can work with Print shops to change their photos into Christmas cards.
The fun started with a performance by Louis York and The Shindellas, who offered Christmas classics, accompanied by the choir from the Freedom Intermediate School, who also performed a solo. Others on the lineup were Kevin Griffin, the co-founder of the Pilgrimage festival; JT Hodges, who performs country music; and Holly Williams, a noted singer/songwriter. Each one of the performers put their own spin on the classic Christmas music.
When the time came, Ken Moore, the mayor of Franklin, and Chris Jones, president of the Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation, joined the two ends of a power plug, and the tree lit up. There was a fall of artificial snow to enhance the evening, and people took the opportunity to photograph the tree.
