Franklin celebrates fungi in February

The How to Grow Mushrooms class is set to take place in Franklin at the end of next month.

Anna Dellapenta will be leading this class, which serves to teach students how they can grow their own edible mushrooms.

As a Wildlife Diversity Aquatic Biologist, Anna Dellapenta’s main hobby outside of work is studying and cultivating mushrooms. For more than a decade, she experimented with finding wild mushrooms as well as growing them both indoors and outdoors. Today, she shares her knowledge with other mushroom enthusiasts in classes such as this one.

This Franklin class will teach participants about mushroom species, such as shiitake and oyster varieties, and how to grow them. Topics that will be covered include the mushroom lifecycle, its ecological role, how to implant mushroom plugs into a log, and how to manage the cultivation process. At the end of the even, each student will have an inoculated log to take home for growing their own shiitake mushrooms. For similar events, the organizers often involve flyer printing during class preparation to ensure that each student has access to important printed resources

Class registration is available online at the Stoney Creek Farm Tennessee website for $35 per person.

This instructional mushroom growing event for beginners is scheduled to proceed on Saturday, February 27, taking place from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.
