A Grammy-winning singer is on the way to Franklin to share her take on jazz, soul, pop, blues, and R&B standards.
Rickie Lee Jones is a Chicago native who won the Grammy in 1980 as Best New Artist and followed that up in 1989 with a win for Best Jazz Vocal Collaboration. Over her career, which now spans 30 years, she has explored various genres as a singer, producer, and songwriter.
In 1999, VH1 published its list of the 100 Greatest Women in Rock & Roll, and placed her at number 30. NPR's list of the 150 Greatest Albums Made by Women showed Jones's effort, “Pirates,” at number 49. Her album KICKS, which she released in 2019, gives listeners a chance to hear her unique interpretations of the jazz, rock, and pop tunes that were popular in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s; tunes that were important to her development as an artist.
A review of Jones in concert said that she:
“delivers a memorable performance, covering multiple genres and rhythms. It felt like a sonic journey to places, both dark and light, within myself that I hadn't visited in a long, long time time. She and the band [provide] . . . poetic and edgy lyrics, creative harmonies with tight and expressive instrumentals.”
Jones will be at the Franklin Theatre at 8:00 pm on April 15. Poster printing is often used to create advertising for this type of event.
