Mandy Barnett, whom the Chicago Tribute calls “a torch singer in the grandest sense of the word,”is a member of the Grand Ole Opry, and is coming to the Franklin Theatre with her presentation, “From Patsy to Porter.” As the title indicates, Barnett sings the works of artists like Patsy Cline and Cole Porter, as well as Irving Berlin and Billie Holliday.
She released an album, “Every Star Above,” in 2021, on which she performed many standards first recorded by Billie Holliday on her “Lady in Satin” album, which appeared in 1958. Variety Magazine called Barnett’s album one of the best released in 2021. Barnett won praise again for her duet with Michael Feinstein on his record “Gershwin Country,” which he released in 2022.
Barnett came to prominence when she starred in “Always . . . Patsy Cline,” a jukebox musical performed at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Barnett is the only actress to play Cline in the theater where Cline herself appeared.
A review says:
“One of the great singers of our time. Her show was a knockout.”
Barnett will be at the Franklin Theatre on August 12 at 8:00 pm, where poster printing can be used to create colorful advertising for the concert.
